Electric trolling motors are a complete and independent unit which includes a propeller, electric motor, and controls. This unit is attached to the bow or the stern of the angler’s boat.
The trolling motor can also pertain to a gasoline-powered outboard, even if it is not the source of propulsion of a boat. Oftentimes, the electric trolling motors are lifted from the water to reduce drag, especially when the primary engine of the boat is working.
O.G.Schmidt invented the electric trolling motors in 1934 in Fargo, North Dakota. He created this from a motor of “Ford Model A”, propeller, and a flexible shaft. He then established the “Minn Kota” company which is up to now a major manufacturer of trolling motors.
